New Foursquare app for Nokia Lumia, brings exclusive features

The latest version of the Foursquare app for Windows Phone 8 is now available – adding an augmented reality experience, exclusive to Nokia Lumia smartphones.
While this new version of Foursquare is available for all Windows Phone 8 smartphones, there are some exclusives for those who own a Nokia Lumia.Nokia, Microsoft and Foursquare have been working closely together to create a redesigned Foursquare app that reflects the design of the Windows Phone platform.
On Nokia Lumia smartphones, such as the Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 720, you can search for venues around you by switching to augmented reality mode by tapping on the map that sits across the top of the screen and then pressing the camera icon at the top.
From here, your camera viewfinder will show you what’s right in front of you, in the real-world, and overlay Foursquare venues right on top of it. This helps you discover new places by providing you with real visual information, such as the exact location of the venue. Is it in front of you, or behind you? This method of checking-in helps.

Tap on one of those icons and you’ll be taken to the venue details page, where you’re just a click-away from checking-in.
One of the great features of Windows Phone is the speech integration. This latest version of Foursquare is the first version to offer checking-in and searching of venues by using just your voice. If you want to go handsfree, you now can.
By utilising the NFC function of all Nokia Lumia Windows Phones 8 smartphones, you can now check-in by just tapping your phone against a NFC-enabled tag – should the venue have it, of course. This could be in the form of a poster, a sticker on the venue door or a card at the point of sale. However it’s packaged, just tap it. Checked-in!
When you look at the map within Foursquare, it’s reassuringly familiar and runs effortlessly to provide you with pinpoint accuracy.

The Nokia Lumia exclusives aside, Foursquare makes it easy for you to check-in to any location. If you find the venue and pin it to your Start screen, you’re just one press away from checking-in the next time you visit.
If you have a number of close friends also using Foursquare, you can pin their Foursquare profiles to your Start screen too, making it that much easier to keep up-to-date with all their checking-in actions.
